Hyperprolactinaemic Hypogonadism The pathogenesis of the hypogonadal state in hyperprolactinaemia is poorly understood. In men, testosterone levels may be normal or low, while in women, a hypo-oestrogenic state may occur, with loss of ovulation. The clinical features in hyperprolactinaemic women, however, differ from those in the postmenopausal state since breast atrophy is absent and gonadotrophin levels are not elevated.
